DPD delivers its 1 millionth parcel in Ford e-Transit

DPD Ireland has reached the milestone of 1 million sustainable deliveries using electric vehicles, with the millionth parcel delivered to the office of An Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar, using the new Ford E-Transit, the first fully electric version of ireland’s top selling commercial vehicle, writes Trish Whelan .  The parcel-delivery company currently has 51 electric vehicles on the road in Ireland, and has ordered a further 110 E-Transit models, the largest order reported by Ford Ireland this year. The first batch are due to arrive in the Autumn, bringing the total number of electric vehicles used by DPD Ireland to over 100 by the year end. New Circle Ks open in Limerick and Sligo

Fourcourt and convenience retailer, Circle K, has officially opened two new additions to its franchise network, writes Trish Whelan .  One is at Circle K Hinchy’s, a newly redeveloped location in Garryspillane, Co Limerick where the store opening will create 15 new local jobs. This redevelopment adds a new shop and forecourt facilities to the premises including super fast electric vehicle chargers, carwash facilities and customer rest rooms. Addition products on the site include kerosene, tractor fuel, pumped AdBlue and a fast-fill truck pump. The new location will be open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 9pm, and Sundays from 8am to 8pm.  The other new Circle K is a brand new service station located in Grange, Co Sligo (pictured above). The station, officially opened on 8 July, will be open Monday to Saturday from 6:30am to 10:30pm and on Sundays from 7:30am to 10:30pm. GoCar invests €1m in car sharing service

Car sharing service GoCar has announced an investment of over €1 million in the expansion of its car sharing fleet across new locations nationwide this year, writes Trish Whelan .  The investment will primarily fund the provision of a new fleet of cars and vans in line with growing demand among the general public since the Covid-19 pandemic. By the end of 2022, the company forecasts a 15pc increase in car sharing locations throughout Ireland compared to 2020 and will have more than 700 car sharing locations nationally this year with more than 900 vehicles available to rent by the hour.  Over the past two years, GoCar has been growing beyond its traditional urban centres in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway and now has car sharing available in many locations throughout counties Kilkenny, Wexford, Waterford, Kildare, Meath, Louth, Mayo, Wicklow, Westmeath and Kerry.  GoCar allows customers to rent cars and vans from €10 per hour. New Opel Astra arrives in Ireland

Opel has launched its sixth-generation Astra to Ireland, writes Trish Whelan .  The car was designed, developed and manufactured at Opel’s headquarters in Russelsheim in Germany.  At the launch to the Irish press, James Brooks, Managing Director at Opel Ireland said: “With its sensational design, precision engineering, class-leading technology and highly efficient powertrains, the new Astra brings us into a new era.” He expressed confidence that this new model will become another bestseller for the German car maker. James Brooks is pictured above with Opel's Marketing Director Emma Toner at the car's launch on Monday last at The Heritage Hotel, Killinard, Co Laois. New Astra is slightly longer than the previous iteration, with a longer wheelbase and is 15pc stiffer than before. Jaguar warranty increases to five years

From 1 January 2022, every new Jaguar car bought in Ireland will now come with a five-year warranty, writes Trish Whelan .  For five years, or 150,000km, whichever comes first, Jaguar will repair or replace manufacturing defects according to the warranty regulations in material or workmanship, completely free of charge. And with the smart combination of InControl Remote, which optimises breakdown assistance and includes automatic emergency calls and the ability to remotely interact with your car from anywhere, it makes life easier when it really counts.  The five-year warranty includes owner-drivers, fleets and private users alike. Jaguar expect it will have a positive impact on the residual value of every vehicle in the range.  

Citroen unveils new C4 X model

Citroen have revealed the New C4 X model which they say features a unique and elegant design that incorporates fastback elegance with an SUV attitude, writes Trish Whelan .  Sizewise, the car will sit between the C4 and C5 X in the current Citroen line-up and will be available in Ireland in Q4 of this year exclusively as an all-electric model featuring a 50kWh battery pack, a 100kW electric motor that provides 136hp and 260 Nm torque. It will have a 0-100km/h time of 9.5 seconds and a 360km WLTP range.  The C4 X is built on the Stellantis CMP platform as is Citroen's current C4 sibling but gains 240mm in length and 130 litres of additional boot capacity over the current C4 to give a generous boot space of 510 litres.  The new car will feature Advanced Comfort Seats to ensure optimal comfort and offer up to 20 Citroen Advanced Driver Assistance Systems including Active Safety Brake and Highway Driver Assist.
