Peugeot’s new 408 will be on sale in Ireland at the start of next year, writes Trish Whelan .  The new model will offer a new fastback silhouette at the top of the C-segment. The range of engines includes two rechargeable hybrid versions with 180bhp and 225bhp as well as a 130bhp petrol version, all paired with an 8-speed EAT8 automatic gearbox. No diesel version is available but an all-electric version will follow a few months later.  The car is aimed mostly at active couples, with or without children, who will use their car for personal and profession purposes and will offer a very high level connected experience. Features will include the latest generation of the brand's i-Cockpit with its compact steering wheel as well as the latest technologies.  It will be produced in Mulhouse France for the European market.

There will be an all-electric version towards the end of next year, in line with the policy of the Stellantis Group driving towards full electrification across its ranges. All 308s here come only with automatic transmission, the only option available in RHD markets. The new Peugeot 308 has been voted the Women's World Car of the Year 2022 , writes Brian Byrne . The announcement was made in Auckland, New Zealand, just after midnight in the first capital city location of International Women's Day 2022, 8 March. The award is for both the saloon and the SW Estate version of the car, which last month was voted the Urban and Compact Car of the Year 2022 in the category section of the competition, by the 56 female automotive jurors who organise the competition. It is the first time that Peugeot has received the award.

The New Peugeot 308 has won the Urban Vehicle category in the Women’s World Car of the Year awards and will now compete with the other category winners in the final of the competition due to take place around 8 March, writes Trish Whelan .  The other six categories are Family SUV, Family Car, Large SUV, Sports Car and 4x4. The 56 women jurors from 40 countries and five continents that make up the WWCOTY said: “Excellence in terms of safety, driving, technology, design, environmental efficiency and value for money is perfectly embodied by the new Peugeot model’.  The jury appraised 65 candidates launched between 1 January and 31 December 2021.  After the double victory in 2021 of the Peugeot 2008 (Urban SUV category) and Peugeot 208 (Urban Vehicle category), the Peugeot 308 is the brand’s third vehicle to win a WWCOTY category in just two years.  

Of the last 21 cars I have had for review, five have been petrol, three have been petrol-mild hybrid, six were plug-in petrol hybrids, and six were pure electric, writes Brian Byrne . When Peugeot introduced their first generation 3008 in 2009 it was an immediate success, writes Brian Byrne . So much so that it rapidly went to waiting list status in Ireland. It was also the winner of the Semperit Irish Car of the Year 2010 which I remember very well, as I'm a longtime member of the judging panel for the award initiated more than four decades ago by the Irish Motoring Writers Association.   The car is only in its second generation now, though for many it might seem there's a third because the refresh carried out for this model year substantially primped up the exterior in the front and rear treatments. Already a handsome car, these details bring the styling into line with more recent renewed models like the 2008 and the upcoming new 308.
